Change of Major #

Application

1.
|
Students who
apply for change of major should refer to the notices of departments about
the requirements and observe their procedures.
|
|
|
|
|
2.
|
Application
form for “Change of Major” is obtainable from the Registration and
Examinations Section (RES) or may be downloaded from RES homepage: http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/rgs from 1 June
onward.
|
|
|
|
|
3.
|
The approved
application form will be submitted by the departments concerned directly to RES on or before 10 July.
Therefore, students are required to indicate with the department
concerned their final decision for acceptance of the transfer.
|
|
|
|
|
4.
|
Students may
be required to transfer to another College if the original College does not
have the new major subject. If a
student wishes to retain his/her original College affiliation due to special
reasons after the transfer, s/he should submit another application form which
is obtainable from RES to retain the original College.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Declaration of Minor(s) #
|
|
Application
period: 1 June – 15

declare new minor subject(s) should also refer to notices of departments
about the
requirements and observe their procedures.

|
|
|
2.
|
Application
form for “Declaration/Cancellation of Minor(s)” is obtainable from RES or may
be downloaded from RES homepage: http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/rgs
from 1 June onward.

|
|
|
|
3.
|
Students
should submit the approved form(s) to RES or Faculty of Medicine (for
students of the Faculty) on or before
15 July.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Declaration of a Second Major #
|
|
|
|
|
1.
|
With the approval of the first and second major departments, students
may declare a second major at the
start of the last term of attendance within the minimum study period.
Application
period : 1st term : 7-21 September 2009
2nd
term : 11-25 January
2010
|
|
|
|
|
2.
|
Students can make inquiries to the second major department and express
in writing the intention of declaring the second major at least one term
before the registration for the second major.
|
|
|
|
|
3.
|
Before making the declaration, students must have attained a
cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in all the courses taken before the last term
of attendance, and must have completed/registered for all course requirements
for graduation purposes in the first major (including
Faculty/University/College requirements) at the time the declaration of
second major is made.
|
|
|
|
|
4.
|
The application form for “Declaration of a
Second Major” is obtainable from RES within the add/drop period of each
term. Students permitted to
declare a second major should submit the approved form to RES or Faculty of
Medicine (for students of the Faculty) by the close of the application period
listed above.
|

|
|
|

Students who have declared double major and cannot complete the
requirements of the first or second major within the minimum study period
will be charged a prescribed fee for the remaining units of courses according
to the fee schedule on RES homepage.

# Change
of Major/Declaration of Minor(s)/a Second Major is not applicable to the students
of Inter-institutional Programme
jointly offered by CUHK and HKIED (programme code:EED). Declaration of a Second Major is not
applicable to students of non-credit-unit based Programmes.

Change of Study Period
|
|
Application

|
1.
|
According to
the General Regulations Governing Full-time Undergraduate Studies, Secondary
6 and Secondary 7 entrants* shall be expected to graduate after 4 and 3 years
of attendance respectively, except for students in courses of study which
prescribe otherwise.
* A
Secondary 6 (or 7) entrant means a student who has been admitted to the
University after completion of Secondary 6 (or 7) in a school or on
equivalent qualifications.

|
|
2.
|
Students who wish to shorten or extend their study period should
submit the “Application Form for Change of Study Period” for major
department’s approval. The form
is also obtainable from RES or may be downloaded from RES website from 1 June
onward.
|
|
|
|
|
3.
|
Students
should submit the approved forms to RES or Faculty of Medicine (for students
of the Faculty) on or before 15 July.
[Note: No such application, however,
shall be accepted after the commencement of the expected term of graduation.]
|
|
|
|
|
4.
|
Students who
cannot complete the first major or other graduation requirements within the
minimum study period** will be charged a prescribed fee for the remaining
units of courses as approved according to the fee schedule on RES homepage.
** A Secondary 6 and a Secondary 7 entrant shall be expected to graduate
after 4 and 3 years of attendance respectively, except for students in
courses of study which prescribe otherwise.

5.
|
